Scripture Folios

By My Spirit

Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit.

The Spirit is there in the Bible’s second verse, hovering over the waters, and for most of the story it rests on a few: prophets, judges, kings. Moses wished it were on all the Lord’s people. Ezekiel and Joel heard that one day it would be. In Jesus it comes. The Spirit is a wind you hear but cannot trace, given without limit, given to anyone who asks. He breathes it on his disciples, and at Pentecost they are all filled. What arrives is life itself: the last Adam is a life-giving spirit, and whoever is joined to the Lord is one with him in spirit. The Spirit tells our spirit we are God’s children; it leads, and it speaks. It makes us God’s temple, strengthens the inner being, seals, and sets free, and against its fruit there is no law. The folio ends where the Bible does, with the Spirit and the bride saying, “Come!”
