Christ as Life

Because I live, you also will live.

The Spirit Gives Life

In Him Was Life

The Way and the Truth and the Life

Because I Live

Christ, Who Is Your Life

Life is given, not made. God forms the man from the dust and breathes the breath of life into his nostrils. The treasure is in jars of clay, but it is not clay. The first Adam became a living being, the last Adam a life-giving spirit, and the risen Jesus breathes on his disciples: “Receive the Holy Spirit.” The Spirit gives life, and what starts in the Spirit goes on in the Spirit. John says more than that God gives life. In him was life; the Father has life in himself and has granted the Son to have life in himself, and the apostles saw and touched “the life that was revealed.” Then the claim keeps rising. He is the bread of life, he came that they may have life in all its fullness, he is the resurrection and the life, the way and the truth and the life, a priest by the power of an indestructible life, the Living One who was dead and is alive forever. The turn comes at the bread: as he lives because of the Father, the one who feeds on him will live because of him. Life has a source and stays joined to it: remain in me, for apart from me you can do nothing. So we are saved through his life, the Spirit gives life to our mortal bodies, and the life of Jesus is revealed in our mortal body. Paul finally says it flat out: Christ lives in me; to live is Christ; your life is hidden with Christ in God, and Christ is your life. The Bible ends where it began, with a tree of life beside the river of the water of life.
